ON ONE ACCORD

While looking for something else among my notes, I happened upon this note I wrote in 2009.

According to reports, two million people attended the inauguration ceremony and parade of President Barack Obama. The crowd exceeded that of all other presidents of the United States of America. All came to witness the occasion of the first African-American man, in the history of this country, to be sworn in as President. It was the most watched event around the globe.

People stood outside in the cold weather temperatures for hours. Many traveled across country to get there, and those that arrived late, were not admitted into the Great Mall because it was already full. Not even standing room was available.

Two million people came together for one purpose: to experience a moment in time, guaranteed to be a part of history forever. They could say to their children and grandchildren “I was there”.

One of the greatest examples of being of one mind was the demonstration of civil obedience. It was a distinct purpose – two million people unified – and not one single arrest. They came together as one body. “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”(Psalms 133:1).
